Many of Malta’s folk instruments have unfortunately been silent for a number of years. However, Anna Borg Cardona has for several years been carrying out methodical fieldwork among the elderly people still recalling the instruments and has also been collecting documented and iconographic evidence. She has published results of her archival and field research on individual instruments in both Maltese and foreign journals. She has also reconstructed several of these instruments for use in performances of the Ġukulari Ensemble.
