Malta’s folk flute is known as il-flejguta. This is made out of a length of Arundo donax reed and is constructed on the principle of the penny whistle and recorder. It has a varying numbers of fingerholes.
Il-flejguta hija tip ta' fifra, tradizzjonalment magħmula mill-qasab, li tindaqq l-istess bħalma jindaqqu s-sfafar tal-pluvieri u l-istrumenti li bl-Ingliż jissejħu recorder u penny whistle. Dawn l-istrumenti kollha ssibilhom l-ilsien u l-bejta.
